The conviction of top chemist Charles Lieber in December 2021 on charges related to millions of dollars in funding that the US Department of Justice (DOJ) claims he received from the Chinese government shocked the research community in the US and beyond.

Republican congressmen Tony Gonzales of Texas and Mike Johnson of Louisiana were both recently accused of “mansplaining.” At least in liberal circles, the term is an effective pejorative for reprimanding and delegitimizing men.

The Havana Syndrome was first reported in Cuba in 2016. The mysterious malady initially afflicted US embassy staff in Havana, especially those attached to intelligence missions. It then spread to Canadian embassy officials. The sudden headaches, debilitating dizziness, and hearing excruciatingly painful sounds struck both at work and at home. Oddly, the Cubans themselves appeared immune to the pathology.

The most obese country by percentage of obese adults are located in South Pacific. The primary cause of the obesity epidemic there is nutrient transmission (change in diet), with a high amount of imported foods high in salt and fat. At the same time, many of the least obese countries struggle with famine and poverty, with the notable exception of Japan, given that its national diet emphasizes seafood, freshness, modest portions, and minimal added sugar or dairy fat.
